Carte des Royaumes de Naples et de Sicile

Map of the Kingdom of Naples and the Kingdom of Sicily

A fine eighteenth-century map of the Kingdom of Naples and the Kingdom of Sicily, from the first edition of Jean-Claude Richard de Saint-Non’s celebrated Voyage pittoresque ou Description des Royaumes de Naples et de Sicile, published in Paris between 1781 and 1786.

Saint-Non’s Voyage pittoresque is among the most important and influential illustrated accounts of the Grand Tour in Southern Italy, providing an exceptional geographical, historical and visual record of the region during the second half of the eighteenth century.

The map is distinguished by its contemporary hand-colouring of the territorial boundaries, lending both clarity and visual refinement to the composition.

An attractive and historically significant example of eighteenth-century Italian cartography, of particular interest to collectors of antique maps, Grand Tour material and the history of the Kingdoms of Naples and Sicily.
