In Delisle’s cartographic works, not only were the errors handed down by his predecessors corrected, but the imaginary lands that had filled the unexplored regions of maps and globes also disappeared. Delisle is regarded as one of the most important reformers of French cartography.
In the lower left corner, within a graduated-border inset, the Island of Malta is depicted. Copper engraving printed on laid paper with watermark. A fine example with strong, well-preserved inking. In excellent condition.
