Taormina in Spring, Otto Geleng

Otto Geleng, a noble-born painter from Berlin, discovered Taormina through the sketches of his teacher and, once there, chose to make it his home.

Fascinated by the dazzling views and bound by love for a local woman, he founded a dynasty of artists that endures to this day.

His canvases, once doubted as fantasies, revealed the true enchantment of Taormina: almond blossoms and olive groves without end, Mount Etna snow-capped and smoking, the infinite horizon of the sea, and the shifting light of dawn to dusk.

With courage and vision, Geleng transformed Taormina from a hidden village into a celebrated destination—an “Island in the Sky.”
